Jefferson's Birthday

Jefferson turned 28 on April 28th so we were excited to celebrate with him. He is such a great husband and father and Emery and I are so lucky to be a part of his family. Since his birthday was on a Sunday we had to do things a little differently than normal.

While Jeff was at a church meeting on Saturday afternoon we made his dirt cake birthday dessert. I've made it for him every year that we've been married on his birthday. It's delicious! He also has pizza on his birthday every year so we got two and ate some on Saturday night and had leftovers for Sunday birthday pizza. While going to pick it up (Jeff was still at his meeting), Emery started screaming and when we pulled into the parking lot I jumped in the back seat just in time to see her throw up all over everything. She must have had a little burp and the car just made her tummy upset. We changed her clothes and put a burp cloth behind her in the car seat and ran inside to get the pizza. Luckily the girl was nice enough to carry our pizzas out while I had Emery. When I walked into the door, Jeff had to wait for a few minutes to eat pizza while he helped me clean everything up.

Sunday, we got up and went to church. Then we came home and ate our birthday pizza and more birthday dessert. We hung out, rested, and opened presents. Later in the afternoon we headed over to Cauley and Jami's house for a joint birthday party where he got to celebrate his birthday with his whole family. This is the first birthday he's been home for since we were married so that was fun!

He also got a whole lot of Emery cuddle time...
"Daddy, you are so funny!"

"Excuse me mom, Dad and I are playing."

Kisses

Talking to Dad

It must have been a good story.
I just love these pictures of the two of them playing, chatting, and loving each other. Every girl needs a dad and Emery is lucky to have a great one!

-Still very much a morning girl. She wakes up at 7:12 almost every morning and when I hear her stir I look over and see her just looking around while rocking in her glider. I say "good morning!" and she gets the biggest grin. Then, she eats and gets changed and the plays with her friends on her playmat while I eat breakfast and get ready for our walk. After about an hour and a half of playing, singing, reading, and chatting we go on our walk and by the time we get back it's nap time--half of which is usually spent in the swing and the other half is spent snuggling with mom.
Playing on the playmat.
Napping on mom.
Once again, mom nap time.
-We found a new way that Emery likes to sit and play--propped up on my knees. We sing wheels on the bus, if you're happy and you know it, and any other song that she laughs at. Sitting like this plus diapers that are getting a little small contributed to so many leaks that we had to do an extra load of laundry by the end of the week.

-Speaking of diapers, this little one is almost out of size 1 diapers. How sad! Now we're just using up the rest of what we have since size 2 diapers are still a little big.

-Emery still loves her tongue more than any toy we have in the house. She will sit there licking her hands, our arms, the couch, the blanket, and anything else she can get her tongue on.

"I love licking!"

"Mom, can I just lick you?"

"But why not?!"

"I just want to lick something."
-I don't know if I have mentioned this before but Emery girl loves her swing. She'll nap in it and alternates between sitting in that and the bumbo while Jeff and I eat dinner. She usually sits in the swing while I make dinner too.

-Is still trying to roll over so badly and she loves sleeping on her side if she falls asleep on the floor or on the couch so she's starting to get uncomfortable sleeping in the glider. Maybe she'll be moved to her crib one of these days. Maybe...

Oh Emery girl, we cannot even believe that you are 3 months old already! What a little cutie you are and you bring so much joy into our lives. Here's what you've been up to:

-First off, yes, I know that you're supposed to put those stickers on a onesie. This girl likes to be in just a diaper so we improvised that day. Here's to maybe getting the 4 month pictures in a onesie with the sticker. If not, oh well. We think she's cutest like this anyway.

-As always, the laugh gets cuter and louder and more filled with slober with each passing week and we love that our house is already beginning to be filled with little laughter. It makes me so happy when Jeff gets home from work and plays with Emery while I make dinner and I can hear them laughing from the family room. Moments like those are what I always pictured when I thought about being a wife and a mom.

-Getting so much better with your hands this week. You've been great at grabbing things for a while but now you like grabbing them and trying to eat them. You'll be playing on your mat with your friends and I will hear little noises of frustration only to find that you have the little elephant or lion in your hands but they are too far away to eat.

-You are still a little cat-napper. I don't know how I am ever going to get anything done but I cherish the moments that we snuggle together on the couch just to get you to finish napping so that you aren't so cranky.

-Manerisms are becoming more noticeable and defined. The other day Jeff said "I don't know if she's picking up on my manerisms or if I am picking up on hers." How true that is. She likes raising her eyebrows and giving suspicious looks at us out of the corner of her eye like she is saying "I'm still not too sure about you two."

-Started making this squished up face where she pushed her little arms up under her chin and puckered her lips. At first I thought she was doing it because it was windy outside but then she started doing it all the time.

-Had a bad mom of the year moment. I had already given Emery her bath for the day and then she pooped out of her diaper everywhere so I got only slightly warm water and poured it over her little buns. It must have been a little too warm because she just screamed (even though it's not as warm as her bath water so maybe it just scared her). I got worried to I let her lay on a cool, wet cloth diaper and a towel on my lap while she napped in the afternoon. Her little buns weren't red or anything but it made me feel awful.

"I'm not too sure about you two."

Her favorite outfit. Just a diaper and a bow.

The cutest face in the world. We send pictures like this to Daddy every day.
